A Huge Welcome to TOM+CHEE!!!!!!!!!!

Normally we don’t like reviewing chain restaurants, but when we saw the sign “TOM+CHEE” in the local strip mall, we knew it would make a fun and interesting review. For those who haven’t seen the Tom+Chee crew on Travel Channel’s Man vs. Food, or ABC’s very popular Shark Tank, Tom+Chee is a franchised restaurant featuring Tomato Soup and Fancy Grilled Cheeses.

Having just opened their doors on February 27th, Ashley and I knew there would be some sort of wait, and there was about a 20 minute wait. The people in line were quite friendly, and the staff moved the line as fast as they could. Their menu has many options for all sorts of people. Salads, three types of tomato soup (Chunky, Classic, and Creamy), Fancy Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Grilled Cheese Donuts (more on that later) and a very comprehensive Create your own Sandwich option.
For this visit, I had the Armagoetta a fancy play on the word “Armageddon” and “Goetta” a sausage popular in the Cincinnati, OH where the franchise is based. Let me say this: “OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS!” It was delicious! The sandwich had Goetta, Cherry Peppers, Fried Onions, Pepper Jack, Hot Mustard and a Sourdough/Rye bread. I can’t believe the wonders of this sandwich. It was a spicy adventure! The Onions and Peppers gave it this crunchy texture that was complimented by the smooth cheese and sausage. Not a sandwich I will forget…. EVER.

Ashley had the Swiss+Shroom sandwich which, was much more tame, featuring grilled mushrooms, onions, Swiss cheese, and Rye. After trying my sandwich, I can’t say this one could compare, but the taste was good, and it was fun to eat. Again, after the spice explosion on my taste buds, this sandwich was quite tame.
We also had the soups. This occasion we tried the Creamy and Chunky. The Creamy was the favored one. The Chunky soup was good, but it didn’t have the same kick as the Creamy version. I really liked the tangy flavor of the Creamy soup. I could probably eat bowls and bowls of this on a cold winter day.
For dessert, we couldn’t pass up the Grilled Cheese Donut. After debating on which we wanted to eat… Ashley wanted “The King” with fresh bananas, peanut butter, mascarpone, and mozzarella, but I’m not a fan of bananas or peanut butter so, I recommended the “Blueberry Blue” with blueberry compote and blue cheese. I forgot that she was allergic to blue cheese! (I don’t think sometimes). We agreed to split the Choco Bacon Bliss… Bacon, Chocolate, Mascarpone, and Mozzarella on a grilled donut. I didn’t know what to think about it, until I tried it. It was a delicious surprise! Creamy a little salty and sweet. It was wonderful.

I don’t like chain restaurants, but I will be back to this one. I am going to make it my mission to try every cheese sandwich they have. Welcome to Omaha Tom+Chee. I hope that you are here for a long time, and that more parts of the city will have access to your unique take on the simple comfort food we all crave, all grown up: Grilled Cheese.
